This is my new personal goal. Not just for 2007, but for life.
Each of the past three years, when I've looked at my friends' New Year Resolutions (and my own), I've come across a very similar lists-- hang out with friends more, go to the gym more, do better in school, etc. Often times though, while these resolutions may be in our minds around the holiday season, they quickly are forgotten once the new semester actually starts. Work becomes piled up; meetings get scheduled; parties get started; and resolutions get pushed aside. Then, sometime in the middle of the year, there's some brief moment of disappointment when our goals have not been met. I've noticed more complaining from my friends, from myself. We are all guilty of this to some degree.
My new goal that I want to consciously work towards is: "More Doing, Less Talking." Less complaining. More action. Action solves problems; complaining makes them worse.
I admire entrepreneurs because they are truly action takers. They don't just dream big, but they execute on those dreams. They turn them into reality. They don't just say "Oh, this idea is really cool." or "Oh, this would make for a really neat product." Instead, they are all about getting things done.
Here's a toast to taking more action. Visit that friend you haven't seen in a while. Get off your butt, and go to the gym. Be active. Read that book that's been lying on your bookshelf. Go out to that new restaurant or party. Breathe the fresh air. Quit complaining, and do something.
